A MAN has narrowly avoided a jail sentence despite making and possessing more than 900 indecent images of children – and been urged by a judge not to be ‘stupid enough’ to do such a thing again.

Glenn Douthwaite, of King Johns Road, North Warnborough, was sentenced to 10 months in jail, suspended for two years, when he appeared at Winchester Crown Court on Friday, August 11.

The 54-year-old admitted three counts of downloading indecent images of children, whose ages ranged from one-year-old to 14.

AN “IMMATURE” man has been jailed for more than two-and-a-half years for threatening to kill a teenager and her unborn child.

Steven John Bird, 26, of Brahms Road, Brighton Hill, pleaded guilty to threatening to kill a pregnant 17-year-old girl, as well as pleading guilty to assault and causing criminal damage.

Appearing at Winchester Crown Court on June 16, the court heard how Bird had threatened the girl by saying he would “slit your throat and rip that baby out”.

Dawn Hyland, prosecuting, told the court that Bird had been talking with the victim and her partner on May 13 when he suddenly became violent.

A BASINGSTOKE man avoided a jail sentence despite “not knowing it was illegal” to have graphic images of animals on his laptop.

Edward Botheras, of Hackwood Road, Fairfields, was given a three-year community order and a sexual harm prevention order for five years when he appeared for sentencing at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday, April 20.

The 60-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornographic images which portrayed a person performing acts with live animals, namely dogs and horses.

Botheras was arrested at his house on March 16, 2016, for having up to 25 extreme images on his laptop, despite being under supervision for a previous sexual conviction in 2002, for which he was jailed.

Steven Brown, 51, used GPS and private investigators to stalk his estranged wife and her new partner

A MAN has been sentenced to 16-weeks in jail for stalking his estranged wife by using GPS trackers.

Steven Brown, of Kingswood, Surrey pleaded guilty to stalking his estranged wife and her new partner when he appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court last month.

The 51-year-old had followed the pair over a three month period from November 2015.

The court heard how Brown placed two GPS trackers on his wife’s car and another on her partner’s vehicle, as well as hiring two private investigators to follow and take photographs of the pair, one of which lives in Basingstoke.

A TALENTED young DJ who was found hanged in the same spot where a close friend took his life two years prior left a note saying “the pain was too much”, an inquest heard.

Carys Murdock, better known by her stage name Enfuza, was found by friends in the Jeffery’s Copse woodland near North Oakley on August 5, with a note saying: “I am sorry I did my best but this is the end for me.

“I didn’t want to be selfish but the pain was too much for me.”

Uncut dinner led to choking

A MEAL which wasn’t properly prepared led to a man with Down’s syndrome choking on
his food, an inquest heard.

Duncan Brown, 45, began choking during his dinner routine at the Voyage Care home, in Worting Road, where he was a resident.

Despite attempts of CPR by both staff and paramedics Mr Brown died in the garden area
of the facility, on May 1.
